Strawberry Colored Glasses

I have one of those projects in front of me that makes me feel equal parts excited, grateful, and a little bit like I should pinch myself just to make sure it is real.

I am directing and producing Strawberry Colored Glasses, a feature-length documentary that tells the life and legacy of the amazing Muriel Fahrion. If that name does not ring a bell at first, trust me, her work does. Muriel is the original artist behind Strawberry Shortcake, and she also played a huge role in shaping the world of the Care Bears. If you grew up with any of that in your life, then you already have a connection to her, whether you realize it or not.

What pulls me into this story is not just the nostalgia. It is Muriel herself. She is talented, hilarious, honest, and completely unfiltered in the best way. She is the kind of person who has lived a full, creative life and still keeps creating. And the more time you spend with her, the more you realize this is not just a story about characters and licensing and childhood memories. It is a story about an artist who helped shape culture, often without getting the credit she deserved for a long time.

That is the heart of Strawberry Colored Glasses. Yes, we are going to celebrate the characters that so many people love. But we are also going to celebrate the human being who made them possible, and the fans whose lives were genuinely touched by her work. Some of the most moving moments have already come from watching people meet Muriel and realizing, in real time, that the person who helped brighten their childhood is standing right in front of them.

I also get to say one of my favorite sentences in the world: I am co-producing this film with my wife, Tonya Power.

If you know us, you know this is what we do. Tonya is my creative partner, my producer brain, my calm in the storm, and the person who can look at a mountain of chaos and immediately start turning it into a plan. I am lucky to make films with her. I am even luckier to do life with her.

This is not our first project together, and it will not be our last. We have built a rhythm over the years that feels like home. We push each other, we keep each other honest, and we keep the work fun even when it gets hard. And for a story like this, that matters. This film deserves care, patience, and the kind of teamwork that only comes from people who truly trust each other.
